Emergency Dental Services in Oshawa
What is a Dental Emergency?
At North Oshawa Dental, we are committed to providing emergency services to our patients and the greater Oshawa community. During our regular office hours, we do our best to see patients as soon as possible for urgent dental issues.
If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies as an emergency, call us and we’ll help determine if it’s urgent and requires immediate attention.
Please visit your nearest emergency hospital if you are experiencing severe pain, difficulty breathing, swelling, or bleeding.
Here are some common dental emergencies we can treat:
-
Lost Fillings or Crowns
If a filling or crown becomes loose or falls out, try to locate it and call our office as soon as possible. Your dentist may be able to reattach it.
A filling or crown helps seal and protect the exposed area of your tooth from bacteria, food debris, and further decay. Without it, the tooth can become sensitive or more vulnerable to damage.
-
Chipped or Broken Teeth
If you have a broken or chipped tooth, try to locate any pieces and place them in a clean container to bring to your appointment. In some cases, your dentist may be able to reattach the fragment.
Whether you find the missing piece or not, please call our office right away to have it repaired.
-
Knocked-Out Teeth
If you've knocked out a tooth, give us a call to book an emergency appointment. The sooner you receive treatment after a tooth is knocked out, the better the chances are that your dentist can save it.
The sooner you receive treatment after a tooth is knocked out, the better the chances are that your dentist can save it.
If you locate your knocked-out tooth, rinse it carefully, hold it by the crown (not the roots), and gently reinsert it into the socket by biting down softly once it's in position. If you can't reinsert it immediately, keep the tooth moist by placing it in a glass of milk or holding it in your mouth until you reach your office.
If you have pain or swelling, apply a cold compress against your cheek. This will help relieve some discomfort while you wait for your appointment.
-
Swelling, Pain or Discomfort
If you notice sudden swelling in your face, mouth, or neck, or experience severe pain or discomfort, call us as soon as possible. In the meantime, follow the tips below to help relieve pain and reduce swelling:
- Apply a cold compress to the area on your cheek where you're experiencing pain.
- Consider taking an over-the-counter pain medication to help ease your discomfort.
- Use salt water to rinse the area that is sore. This will help remove any debris that might be causing the toothache.
Once you get to our office, our dentists will assess your condition to diagnose the cause and plan quick, effective treatment.
